2016 Bekkers McLaren Vale Syrah Grenache
What better than a marriage of McLaren Vale's two hero varieties? A blend of 70% Shiraz and 30% Grenache, this wine rests equidistant between the fragrance of our Grenache and the mouth-filling generosity of our Syrah. It exhibits the soft, silky texture that we see as the signature of all our wines.

The 2016 Syrah Grenache is a 69-31 blend of those two varieties. It's darker, richer and plusher than the pure Grenache wines, offering scents of black cherries and blackberries. There's plenty of power on the full-bodied palate, but the wine is creamy in texture, not aggressive at all, with a long, supple finish and lingering, complex notes of dried spices.
James Halliday, 2019 Wine Companion. 97pts for 2016 Bekkers Syrah Grenache. “An exercise in complexity from start to finish in flavour, texture and structure.”
A 69/31% blend from five vineyards fermented and matured separately, whole berries and 20% whole bunches open-fermented with gentle plunging, matured in used French oak before blending. An exercise in complexity from start to finish in flavour, texture and structure. This has a European touch to the way intensity and elegance dance a pas de deux. It changes shape once again with a magical burst of flavour than lingers forever.

Gourmet Traveller Wine. Mike Bennie. 2016 Bekkers Syrah Grenache- “This marries power with elegance…”
This marries power with elegance in a seamless flow of brooding, dark fruit, judicious spice and luxurious tannins. A generous volume of perfume opens the wine, offering forest berries, garam masala spice with a seasoning of cedar and sweet herbs. The palate is succulent, exceptionally long and moreish showing some gentle sweetness and lick of refreshing acidity to close. It looks superb now, but I wager a decade will find it in full stride.
Huon Hooke.com. Huon Hooke. 95pts for Bekkers 2016 Syrah Grenache. "A savoury, complex, delicious blend."
Deepish red colour with a tinge of purple. The meaty bouquet seems a little forward-developed (that's the grenache) and has aromas of charcuterie and a background raspberry hint. There's a fruit-sweet core and a savoury dryness that continues through the palate and finish. A savoury, complex, delicious blend.

Matthew Jukes.com (U.K.). 18.5+/20 for 2016 Bekkers Syrah Grenache. "...rippling muscle beneath its mill-pond-still surface."
"Only old 300l and 500l barrels are used for these wines and this is the key to their purity and cadence. In addition to the gentle oak treatment, the careful addition of whole bunches (20% in each wine) is perfectly judged, too, bringing wistful hedgerow and briar perfume to puncture the glossy depth-charges of black fruit. The blend is the more powerful wine, using 69% Syrah and 31% Grenache to bring rippling muscle beneath its mill-pond-still surface. I like it enormously, and it is a big, bold wine..."
