  • WBM Magazine, Mike Bennie. 96pts for 2014 Syrah: "Stunning."

The pursuit of elegance isn't necessarily every winemaker's agenda, but some seem to make it their metier. Toby Bekkers, with his diligent approach to viticulture and winemaking, seems to have made a significant approach at this ephemeral idea of elegance. Pure, luxurious in texture, epic in length, deep in flavour, swirls reveal more and more about this wine. Stunning.

  • Gourmet Traveller Wine, Huon Hooke. 96pts for 2014 Bekkers Syrah: "...intense, concentrated, focussed and precise..."

96 points, five stars. A wine of excellent balance and palate texture. It has purple-red colour and an elusive aroma of dry spices and herbs. The palate is intense, concentrated, focussed and precise with the right measure of fruit sweetness and acidity. Very long carry. 20 years.

•, Angus Hughson. 95pts for Bekkers 2014 Syrah. "A velvet steam roller..."

Opaque ruby. A dense yet savoury style with layers of powerful blackberry, pepper, leather, thyme and tar fruits. Dry, full, plush ripe fruits that are generous with rounded well integrated with significant tannins and exceptional oak. A velvet steam roller that will improve in bottle.

  • Huon Hooke, 96pts for Bekkers 2014 Syrah. "A stylish, classy wine of excellent balance and palate texture."

    96 pts.

Bright, youthful, deep purple/red colour and an elusive aroma which suggests dry spices and dried herbs. The palate flavour is very intense and concentrated, focused and precise, with good acidity in balance and a long, long carry. Just the right measure of fruit sweetness. A stylish, classy wine of excellent balance and palate texture. 29/9/2016

  • Jancis Bekkers 2014 Syrah: "...wonderful fruit clarity..."

Rich, dense, compact nose with a hint of blood and meat. Sweet oak influence, wonderful fruit clarity, full body and long, intense finish. Intense and powerful stuff, with a genuine need for bottle maturation to allow the primary fruit to evolve into a more complex flavour range.

    17.5.   2018 – 2028 (Richard Hemming MW)

  • Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: 95+ pts for 2014 Bekkers Syrah. "...profoundly scented..."

Bekkers 2014 McLaren Vale Syrah. 95+.

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2014 Mclaren Vale Syrah gives a profoundly scented nose of plum preserves, blueberry tart and blackberry preserves over notes of Indian spices, beef drippings, menthol, licorice and cloves. Full-bodied and packed with taut, muscular fruit, it gives layers of spicy, perfumed blue and black fruit flavors supported by grainy tannins and finishing with a satisfying savory character. Lisa Perrotti-Brown, MW.

  • Wine Front- Gary Walsh. 94pts for Bekkers Syrah 2014. "Looks very convincing given time in the glass..."

When you stump up $110 for a Shiraz, you’d rightfully expect a bit of a show. In contrast to that, I met Toby Bekkers a short while ago, and he seemed a considered, thoughtful and unassuming fellow.

Blue and black fruits, roast hazelnuts, plenty of spice, aniseed and chocolate cream oak. Full bodied, lush delivery of spicy and earthy black fruit, grainy tannin, cool but slightly tangy acidity, and a warm breathy finish of fine length, with a trail of tannin firming it up. Looks very convincing given time in the glass, so suggest parking this wine for at least a few years.
