2014 Bekkers McLaren Vale Syrah Grenache
What better than a marriage of McLaren Vale's two hero varieties? A blend of 70% Shiraz and 30% Grenache, this wine rests equidistant between the fragrance of our Grenache and the mouth-filling generosity of our Syrah. It exhibits the soft, silky texture that we see as the signature of all our wines.

Emmanuelle (winemaker) and Toby (viticulturist) Bekkers craft small quantities of exemplary McLaren Vale reds that are available from their classy cellar door or from top restaurants or fine wine merchants. This is a seamless blend (70% syrah) that is plush yet restrained, with opulent bramble and briary flavours that linger and sumptuous velvety texture that satisfies.

Bekkers 2014 McLaren Vale Syrah Grenache. 94.
Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2014 Syrah Grenache leaps from the glass with expressive exotic spice and potpourri notes on top of baked black cherries and raspberry coulis notes, with wafts of anise and pepper. Full bodied, rich and seductively textured in the mouth, it gives layers of spice and berry preserves notes with a finish that just goes on and on. Lisa Perrotti-Brown, MW.

The quality is certain but so too is the creep of warming alcohol. Silken raspberry, plum, blackberry and saltbush flavours team deliciously well, the slip of integrated tannin judged just so. It feels fine and soft throughout; the warmth you need to be in the mood for. Fruit quality here though is superb.

2014 Bekkers Wine Syrah/Grenache
Deep ruby. An assertively perfumed bouquet evokes ripe red fruits, incense and Asian spices, with deeper licorice and mocha notes in the background. Silky and concentrated, offering juicy black raspberry and bitter cherry flavors that become sweeter as the wine opens in the glass. Finishes seamless, sappy, long and impressively lively, with fine-grained tannins and a hint of candied rose.

BEKKERS SYRAH GRENACHE MCLAREN VALE
REGION South Australia
This really speaks of shiraz with polished and groomed style that is a Bekkers trademark, red fruits to dark plum and liquorice on the nose, some fruit paste too. The palate has a sliver of mocha flavor through bold black plum and cherry, acid has a gentle spark and the finish holds with conviction. This is very approachable and will drink well now through to 2022.

2014 Bekkers Syrah Grenache
Decanted 2.5 hours before tasting. Juicy berry fruity, loads of oak on the nose, savoury meat and blackcurrant jam - so pure and refined. Beautifully open (thanks to decanting?) A real powerhouse, with the Grenache fruit chiming with the Syrah spice beautifully. (RH)

Bekkers, Syrah Grenache, 2014
Glossy opaque ruby. Quite a ripe blackberry mulberry-fruited style but also with some enticing savoury earthy, tar, spice complexity. Dry, full bodied and fleshy layers of ripe generous old vine fruit are well supported by supple tannins and a long finish. Delicious but not overstated.
Drinking Range: 2016 - 2025
Campbell Mattinson, Wine Front. 95pts for 2014 Bekkers Syrah Grenache: "It feels like a piece of high-class design."
McLaren Vale blend of shiraz and grenache. These blends are, quite possibly, what McLaren Vale does best.
This is a ripper. Yes it’s warm with alcohol but it’s satiny and rich and so beautifully finished. It feels like a piece of high-class design. Plum, blackcurrant, raspberry and herbs-infused-with-cedarwood. Texture texture texture.
