2016 Bekkers McLaren Vale Grenache
From vineyards in Kangarilla and Blewitt Springs planted in the '30s and '60s, open-fermented separately with 20% whole bunches, matured in used French oak before blending. If the Syrah Grenache is all about complexity, this is all about stealth. The bright, light crimson hue and fragrant bouquet are seemingly fixed to the flagpole of red berry fruits, but just when you think this may simply be a pretty red wine, the previously hidden fine tannins make their appearance. The result is a wine with great length and great purity.
